After stepping on the scales shortly after Christmas, I made the decision to train for the big half marathon held in the Middle Tennessee region. There is a bright red line for weight over which the "caution" bells turn to "red alert" bells and I have crossed it.
I still need to go to a physical therapist to try to understand the persistent hip/groin injury (past 3 years), turf toe (9 months), and to make sure I don't tear my hamstrings again, but something has to give and the only way I can consistently motivate myself to train is to lay my money down for a race.
To serve as a source of motivation, I am going to post my current weight and time trial results, and my goal time. I know to many of you my goal time looks awfully slow, but remember Clydesdale run slow over distance, and given my poor results over the past 3 years, rather than attempt a pre-40s PR, I will aim for a post-40 PR. (By virtue of being the first post-40 run.) The time trial I will use to gauge my progress during training is a little bit hilly ~6 mile run from my house that I have used for the past 5 years to track progress. For reference, when I ran a 1:54 half, I was running it around 54 minutes.
Goal time: 2:05:00 Course is somewhat hilly. Avg per mile time 09:32.
